Your Guide to an Amazing Photoshoot

So, you’ve booked a photoshoot! Exciting times! Whether it’s for family portraits, a professional headshot,  or a fun personal project, a little preparation can go a long way in ensuring you love the results. Here’s your guide to looking and feeling your best:

1. Plan Your Look:

  • Wardrobe:
    • Choose outfits that make you feel confident. Think about the style of the shoot (casual, formal, etc.) and the colors that flatter you.
    • Bring options! Pack a few different outfits to give you variety.
    • Consider accessories. Jewelry, hats, scarves – these can add personality.
    • Iron your clothes. Wrinkles can be distracting in photos.
  • Hair and Makeup:
    • Do a trial run. Experiment with different hairstyles and makeup looks beforehand to see what you like best.
    • Keep it natural (unless otherwise directed). You want to look like yourself, just the best version!
    • Hydrate well. This will help your skin look its best.

2. Prep Your Body:

  • Hydrate: Drink plenty of water in the days leading up to the shoot.
  • Get enough sleep. Tired eyes and dull skin are not ideal for photos.
  • Consider a light workout. Exercise can improve circulation and give you a healthy glow. 1

3. Prepare Your Mind:

  • Relax and have fun! A positive attitude will show in your photos.
  • Think about your poses. Practice a few simple poses in the mirror beforehand.
  • Bring props (if appropriate). A favorite toy, a book, or a special item can add a personal touch.

4. On the Day of the Shoot:

  • Arrive on time. Being punctual shows respect for the photographer’s time.
  • Communicate. Let the photographer know if you have any concerns or preferences.
  • Be yourself! Smile, laugh, and enjoy the experience.
  • 5. Special Considerations for Modeling Portfolios:

    • Professional assistance: Modeling portfolio sessions often include professional hair stylists, makeup artists, and fashion stylists who may provide clothing options. Discuss your desired look and style preferences with them in advance.
    • Wardrobe selection: Bring a variety of outfits that showcase your versatility and fit different styles (e.g., casual, formal, edgy), even if you plan to use some clothing provided by the stylist.
    • Pose variety: Be prepared to experiment with a range of poses, from natural and candid to more stylized and dramatic.
    • Communication is key: Work closely with the photographer to ensure the photos effectively represent your unique look and personality.
